Crowns

Dental crowns or caps are dental prosthetics intended to replace a damaged or lost tooth. Most dentists recommend crowns as they are efficient, durable, and aesthetically pleasing since they imitate your natural tooth colour and shape. Aside from restoring or replacing a damaged tooth, dental crowns are also necessary to:

  1. Prevent a weak tooth from breaking
  2. Support a tooth that is already covered by a large filling
  3. Cover discoloured, malformed or other imperfect teeth
  4. Support dental bridges
  5. Cover a crown on the top of a dental implant
  6. Cosmetically enhance your smile

Dental crowns, also known as tooth caps, are an efficient and durable way to replace a damaged or lost tooth. They are also aesthetically pleasing as they imitate the natural colour and shape of your teeth.

First, we conduct a dental exam and may also request a dental X-ray to detect irregularities and check for decay or infection. If we find any diseases present, we might recommend that you undergo a root canal procedure before having the dental crowns placed.

On your next visit, we will put you under sedation to help you calm down, prepare your tooth and file it down to fit in the tooth cap. If your tooth has lost most of its structure, this will require more effort. This would require bonding the tooth with filling materials and scanning the tooth to get an impression. Then, we will send it to the dental lab where your crown will be fabricated.

After a few weeks, we will receive your dental crowns and arrange for you to return to our office so we can apply them to your prepared tooth and enhance your smile. To learn more about this procedure and if it is right for you, call to book an appointment with us today.
